Incidentally, if you ever decide you're more comfortable writing
in Italian, several of the regulars can read it, and a few write
it in response.
If your gratitude ever pushes you toward action, I can recommend
a couple of constructive outlets: write content for <URL:
http://wiki.tcl.tk/tktutor > or, perhaps even better, a new Wiki
page on the theme of, "What a newcomer to GUI programming should
know". We'll help set you up, if you ever want to make this
real. If you're less ambitious, it would help us even to learn
your judgments of what you've encountered so far (you think the
Zimmer book useless, ...).
I haven't detected abyssmal ignorance from you in any regard,
and about all that consistently scandalizes us is dishonesty,
so you're safe on that score.
Fortran elicits interest from me, and a few others, because we've
seen what you also seem to describe: working scientists sometimes
put a LOT of effort into computer programming with more meager
results than a slightly more enlightened approach could yield with
a fraction of the "footprint".
Thanks for the details on MARS. I wasn't aware of it.
I'll have more to say about your technical questions within the
next hour.
