'console show' gone on Win98 ?

Hello out there,
for quite some time I sometimes wondered why 'console show' didn't
work like I remembered it to work. It was not enough of an annoyance
to really pursue the issue - normally I work from within TkCon and am
happy.

But now this itch /is/ scratching: I explicitly added a 'console show'
to an app (via a binding to Esc) and I have seen it work - but it may
well be that this happened on my XP box.
Tonight I'm sitting in front of Win98 and, lo and behold, I get
        invalid command name "console

Is this a known issue? A result of (slowly) dropping support for
Win98? Just tough luck on my part?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Helmut Giese
