E-mail problem with Norton Personal Firewall

Since replacing an earlier version of Norton Personal Firewall with NPF 2005, I can't send 


e-mail from Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird unless NPF is disabled.  Symantec's 


tech help has made many suggestions, none of which cleared up the problem. Has anyone on 


this NG had this problem?  If so, how was it solved?
