If you use one of the IP address ranges reserved for private
use, NAT is required for connectivity with the internet.

This concerns addresses like:

  10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255,
  172.16.0.0 to 172.16.31.0, and
  192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.0

See http://rfc.net/rfc1918.html for details regarding the use
of these addresses.

Scary.

If I understand you correctly, you only need to enable NAT+PAT.
PAT is not really needed unless you have more than one machine,
but it is commonly used anyway. In fact, most other vendors don't
separate the two, but simply calls the entire process "NAT".

By this you mean "remove the firewall and configures the PC to
use 194.97.248.40"?
