That's a "no," right?

I made specific claims about toupper(), and you, Doug, seemed to
say I had something wrong. My explanation was right, so I've
carefully supported every point of it. Your explanation was
wrong, so you keep snipping down to a sentence or two and
pretending that you had something right.

You want to say other functions are relevant when they are not.
Lots of functions, in lots of languages, on lots of systems,
return, or take, things that one might reasonably called
"character codes". Yes, of course. That doesn't disagree with
anything I've said, and it doesn't lend any support to the
statements of yours that I refuted.
