As a guess, sci.crypt was added because if large
organisations like the BBC and the Hollywood studios
use Bittorrent to download programmes then they will
want to encrypt the file. They can then charge you
for the key variable needed by your player to
decrypt the file. The key variable can be
personalised by encrypting it using the subscribers
public key.
