More specifically we are using: Utimaco Safeguard Easy 4.10

When originally encrypting the drive, it goes through the entire hard
disk to write over each sector (full disk encryption).

I've noticed the machine definitely 'seems' slower when it is
encrypted. It would be interesting to see what is working harder to
cause this slowdown. I'm assuming when data is accessed, it runs the
encryption algorithm that Utimaco uses.
